Vinyl Remorse

I used to get vinyl remorse when I would buy a new album on vinyl. Like "oh, well shit, I should've gotten the CD." This year it happened with the new Decemberists album and the new Thermals album. With the Decemberists I got the vinyl because it came out a week before the CD, but it didn't come with a download and I think I've only listened to it twice. The Termals did come with a download, but I still found them getting shortchanged as far as listening time. I still enjoy the albums, I just wish I had gotten them on CD.

I got the new Mountain Goats album, Life Of The World To Come on vinyl on Tuesday, and I have no remorse yet. Other than the fact that the vinyl is purple there's no difference between that and the black one. But damn, I do like purple vinyl.

Oh yeah, and the album is also really good.

Bands, belt sander races, a drunken spelling bee, tumbling Scotland Yard Gospel Choir fans, the Waco Brothers and Alejandro Escovedo doing a song together, and a copy of the vinyl reissue of A Man Under The Influence. For what more could one possibly ask?

I would also like to take the opportunity to say that I would like to build a racing belt sander. Someday. Maybe not today. Eventually.

Cowboys in Flames

One of Chicago's finest record labels, Bloodshot Records, announced the lineup for their 15th Anniversary show in Chicago, and oh my goodness, does it bring it. Alejandro Escovedo! Waco Brothers! Bobby Bare! The Blacks! Like, omgomgomgomg! All for $10!

It's part of a series of low cost, or free concerts that the label is putting on throughout the summer/fall as part of their anniversary. I was eying that lineup in Madison as a possible late summer road trip but I'm definitely going to hit up the hometown event.
